Between the hack of Gumi, and the bazillion-hour downtime, and now 23645237846 purported documents having been leaked so far (with some damned interesting shite in them, let's see if half of it comes true even), and etc etc ...

And of course the FFBE showing at Tokyo Game Show, which drove home a few different things:

- There is another artbook coming asdhasdjksfksddfgjkfgkkl I hope I manage to finangle this one also

- That special Rain in conjunction with said book + the Akibahara Festa just totally destroyed me

- I now have disgustingly cute chibis from the site for said Festa ~

- Damnit people stop teasing me with a release of Nichol's S2 render and a grainy picture showing one for Lid and Citra (and while we're at it, goddamn that new Amano art give me renders for all the Veritas plz) just give me more renders

- Oh jeezus that new key art ...

Welp, I have stuff to chew on anyway?

Aside from squeaking in all those fics/ficlets/drabbles last night, I put on Dragonball, since it's been sitting here and I've wanted to revisit it~ *grins* So far, Boycritter seems to be enjoying it. And I haven't seen it uncensored, so this is fun~

I'll do some proper fic-announcement posts at some point soonish. Some of them are for some fairly obscure fandoms, alas? AO3's interface does not make for quick fic posting and deargods, I am still horrible with titles. *sighs*

I finally ordered the latest volume of Astray manga and I'm sort of dreading it. From what I've gathered of the premise, it's going to manage to insult a couple of my favorite characters by making them completely OoC and actually fart on the entire premise of SEED in the process. Good job. *sighs* And yet I'm buying it anyway, because.

I also ordered the new volume of UraBoku/The Betrayal Knows My Name. So glad it's coming out again~~ I got into it a couple of Yuletides ago to write something for [personal profile] roseargent and no regrets~

Aaaand, the Pilot Candidate/Candidate for Goddess box set which includes the OVA! \o/ So a little old, a little new all around. ^_^

It's been unseasonably warm here... I'm ready for it to be fall~

Fire Emblem Heroes wishlist

Because I 1) am working on climbing out of the hole, 2) was randomly pondering it while nuking the Black Knight with Genny and other antics, 3) feel like it, here is a totally not at all feasible wishlist of units I really badly want in FEH one of these days ~

- GIVE ME JUGDRALI DAMNIT. Seriously I want more Jugdrali and yes I am all towards Genealogy here because while that one gives me map agonies ahahahaa Thracia 776 ahahahaha ~

In no particular order: Sigurd, Dierdre, Arvis, Midayle, Edain, Quan, Ethlyn, Leif, Ayra, Altena, Travant, Arion, Ares, Finn, Julius (ahahaha), Erinyes, Nanna ...

Hell I want piles. Gimme Jugdrali.

- Why am I missing Important Bodies from Awakening?! Not faaaiiiir DX

Including but not limited to: Sumia (omfg), Owain (I don't care that Odin's in the game), Priam, Libra, Say'ri, Cynthia ...

- I don't know how actually viable it is on account of the Atlus factor, but I would die of lolsquee if FEH picked up units from Tokyo Mirage Sessions. Especially if, say, there was a banner for the modern-world nobs and a banner for Mirages. Yes please I would like Mirage Chrom and Mirage Virion yes yes 83

Why I love Tokyo Xanadu

I bought and started playing this game on the Vita around the beginning of August. I initially thought it might just be a temporary distraction before I put it aside in favour of some shinier game, but not only did Tokyo Xanadu turn out to be a very shiny game in its own right, but I found myself getting super invested in it -- and after about a month and a half, during which I clocked up about 80 hours of playtime, I finished my first playthrough last weekend!

As much as I love this game, it sadly doesn't seem to have gotten much fandom attention, so I thought I'd write a gushy post (not a formal review by any means) talking about why I'm so bloody fond of it; I'm hoping it might encourage more people to give the game a try, along with calling out to existing fans. :3

Cue the spoiler-free gushing! )

I started playing Trails of Cold Steel shortly after beating TX, and I'm enjoying that so far as well. I guess I'm steadily falling into Falcom hell!

A Canticle for Leibowitz

I don't often read 50's era scifi nowadays—not because I hate it or anything. But, it tends toward hard science where I prefer softy goopy anthropological scifi, and it tends toward pulp and space opera when I'm more into artsy and earthy things. Moreover, its themes tend toward things that can feel strikingly archaic nowadays. Endless Cold War-era brooding of superpower stand-offs feel faintly quaint in a post-Soviet world where nuclear concerns are more diffuse, and tangled, and unpredictable and tenuous.

A Canticle for Leibowitz is absolutely 50's-era scifi, but very much unlike the rest. It's only called scifi because there's not another classification that really fits—"alternate history" maybe? There's no space opera here, just monks hanging out in abbeys, and even though it is basically the Cold War scenario—"what if nuclear holocaust"—its take is surprisingly fresh, even a half-century after its publication.

The book's divided into three sections, each six hundred years apart, starting six hundred years after The Big Nuclear Apocalypse. Christianity survives, but just barely, and a tiny order of monks out in the Utah desert have been busily preserving what few scraps of writing and civilization remain.

Got two drabbles done last night -- I haven't given up on StoryADay yet, and I started pecking at my prompt tables for [community profile] serendipityclaims, whee ~

Also I actually managed drafts for two locations for the gazetteer in the Black Hack hack omfg 83~

So, progress! Little progress but still progress!

On top of this stuff, I have my prompts for [personal profile] spook_me (let's go, not-at-all-cute Genealogy fic ~~), and -- all things being equal -- it just might be time to think about buckling down and dead tree'ing Equinox after all. Lol.

Well, I need to go back to it at some point and rework it into a list for this week, but I'm pretty confident in saying I didn't get most of my weekend to-do taken care of. ^^;; I did get a lot done in the bookroom, which was definitely one of the most important things. However, a lot of it involved unpacking and sorting books and now my bedroom is a disaster of bookpiles (whoops?). I ended up moving a couple of bookcases and the desk twice, because I had ~~different ideas, and then I had one more but ended up not doing it, because instead of trying to incorporate the cedar chest that's been floating around, I should see about parting with it. I don't use it, stuff gets piled on it, and like many pieces of furniture that came over here, it's not actually in very good shape. Well... I don't have to decide on anything today.

Basically, I have to keep reminding myself that not only can I be flexible, it's okay if I am. So if this layout isn't working in a few weeks, I can try something new.

Just unpacking and sorting, I've pulled out three books to go already. Well, for one, I read one chapter and immediately deposited it in the 'take to pagan shop' basket. Not my cuppa. I suspect this will happen more and more as I keep going, especially with reference books that are interesting but not the sorts of things I'll ever need to reference that often, or that seem impressively redundant (like the dozens of gardening books).

Other than that, words! I'm sort of trying for the impossible, lol. Wish me luck! (And words!)

Continuing on the quest to climb out of a fandom hole, I decided to hunt up a Fire Emblem questionnaire meme!

... And then promptly gutted it of all the ridiculously over-specific questions, and tweaked a few others. You know, like one does with memes ~

That said, this is still 25 questions about FE, and that's kind of a lot.
So, this is now an Ask And Answer Meme! 83

Comment with the number or numbers of the questions you'd like me to answer, and I'll respond back. (no asking for every single one in a clot, that's just mean.)

It looks as official as it gets:

Harmony Gold's Macross, Mospeada, Southern Cross Licenses Still Expire in 2021

-- so this is the part where Harmony Gold needs to either get ready for a final winding down (unless things do actually wind up getting renewed after all, and I don't know how likely I find that), or (and I bet you can guess which option I favour at least trying) use the creations it has and build a proper 'new' Robotech.

I'd like to think that the new comic is an intermediary step -- changing up events and character details and such while retaining, for the moment, familiar trappings -- but somehow I don't know that I'd be so lucky.

Also, the bit in the article about "Harmony Gold owns the title Robotech in perpetuity, but when its license expires it will no longer be able to use or exploit works that are derivative of the three anime titles" is so disingenous I could chew up swords and spit out tacknails.

But I really shouldn't be surprised that the anime news site does its best to passive foster the continuing bullshit misinformation that Robotech has nothing of its own addition and creation, right? *snort*

For various reasons -- most online, but not all of them -- over the last several months my attachment to Fire Emblem (or chunks thereof) degraded from 'omnipresent part of fannish multitasking, several years consecutively' to 'get thee behind me, satan'.

This is, frankly, depressing as hell and I'd like to get my groove back. There are critters I do miss.

I'm open to thoughts on the subject?
