Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

Mmm, this community seems dead, but I'll post this just to see if anyone is still kicking around :)

I just started playing Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones (my first FE game) and boy and I getting my arse served to me.

I have been trying to recruit Joshua to my team, but before I get to him, I either A) Die or B) Kill him by accident.

I have never played a tactical role-playing game before so learning how to position my troops and NOT LET THEM DIE has been fun, but a struggle. I always have to restart the chapter, because I just can't stand to see one of my pixelated troops die. I have noticed that I am slowly getting better though. It just takes time!

Anyone else have stories about FE they want to share (like how much better than me they are? Hahaha.

Edit: Thanks so much for everyone's help! I managed to recruit Joshua and make it to Chapter 6 so far (= )

Side note: Anyone looking forward to playing FE: Awakening?

I'm a little foggy on FE8, but try taking away Seth's weapons and then putting him juuust at the edge of Joshua's attacking range, with Natasha waiting safely behind him.

SRPGs are great. And you're absolutely right, patience is key.

(We've been waiting years for Awakening! :P)

All the customizable aspects of Awakening look really cool. Hopefully by the time it comes out I'll have played through FE:SS.

Remove Eirika's weapons, she's fast enough to dodge his attacks and lucky enough not to be critical'd. Though Seth and Gilliam are also a good idea if you have them out, especially Gilliam.

Agreeing on using Seth without any weapons (trade them off to someone else or throw them in the convoy with Eirika). Keep Natasha sheltered and he'll go for Seth, who can withstand hits easily. Eirika isn't really a safe bet; if Joshua crits her, she's probably dead. Seth can take even Joshua's worst, so keep him just within his attack range and you should be able to lure him in and let Natasha talk to him.

Also, don't worry too much about spending time in the arenas. Sacred Stones lets you level up on extra maps with less risk of blowing your whole chapter.

I'll make sure to take Seth's weapons off next time I play (in a few mintues, haha).

If you need to use Seth in the early part of the chapter you can give him a few things to start with, and have someone run up to him and Trade away his weapons right before you put him in Joshua's range.

Thanks for the tip! I followed yours and everyone's advice and managed to recruit Joshua and get past that chapter. I'm very happy right now, haha.

Awakening is going to rule the first part of 2013 for me. My advice on FE8 in general: Keep Franz away from everything. The game hates him and wants to kill him.
